what to expect for your newborn session…
By now you should have had the chance to look through AJ Arts newborn galleries and have an idea of how I work. All of my sessions are neutral and minimalistic, I really focus on your brand new baby and their features. I do have props and baskets and wraps and you will be able to choose for a set to be included into your session and are cleaned after each session, but as you’ve seen I am very minimalistic and use little props to keep the focus of your images solely on baby.
For newborns I like to photograph between 5-15 days old, so you have a little bit of time to heal but baby is still new enough to safely pose and easy to get to sleep. I have about 3 years of newborn experience and 4 years as a photo business all together. I take safety classes and mentor programs every year to stay refreshed and up to date on everything I need to know. I only shoot two newborns a week so scheduling in advance is highly recommended.
I have everything you will need for your session available in my studio, including using fresh (seasonal) homegrown flowers for baby girls, however you are welcome to bring a sentimental item or two to incorporate for your session to make it that much more special.
The studio will be moderately warm to keep your little one comfortable, he will be partially naked most of the time either in a diaper (covered with a wrap) or a simple outfit. I also use a small heater and move it to each section I’m working at with baby.
Sessions can last up to three hours, we work on babies time so we stop and feed when we need to. Please bring anything you’ll need during this time, snacks, a good book, extra snacks lol. However you may be in and out in an hour, we just never know!
Choosing the right package might be tough before even seeing your little ones photos, good thing you don’t have to! After shooting your session we will set a date for viewing and ordering photos, I will edit your photos and you will be able to view them and select all your favorites and go home with all of the images and products you love after your return appointment. Product and pricing ranges depending on what you want, your session will include a consultation before booking, up to three hours of studio time, access to studio props and wraps, customized setups per requested style/color, family posed photos, posed sibling photos, posed solo photos of baby, editing of photos, and a viewing and ordering appointment to select photos and choose prints and products.
FAQ’s
“what if I only want one good photo of my baby, how much does that cost?” The same as a full session so may as well do it all!
“what if I deliver early or later than my expected due date?” I will adjust to your new date, I leave flexibility for this reason, but you must let me know ASAP!
“what should we wear for family and sibling photos?” My studio is all white so neutral colors, no bright colors or patterns because they will not photograph well in this setting.
“I would like to have certain props and theme setups during my session, can you do that?” Most politely, no. I have gender neutral and non-theme props so they can be used more than just once. I prefer to have simple setups because I want to reflect a clean and classic portrait session that will not fade out when trends die. Your booked session WILL reflect the galleries on my website and recent Instagram and Facebook posts.
“Do you take payment plans?” Yes, I do. I like to work with my clients any way I possibly can to benefit them!
